Meet the Roxbys, the Family Behind Radical Ray
The Characters Who Show Kids What Kindness and Courage Look Like
Ray Roxby
Ray is the heart of Radical Ray, a big-hearted, boomerang-loving eight-year-old who fires for kindness and emotional smarts every day. He doesn’t get everything right, and that’s exactly what makes him so relatable to kids ages 7–10. Ray teaches us courage is more about showing up than being perfect.
Grandma Leila
Grandma Leila (Lee-la) is the calm in the chaos, sipping her tea, offering a knowing hug, and sharing wisdom without ever preaching. A retired school librarian, she gently helps Ray (and readers) make sense of big feelings with warmth, empathy, and a touch of mischievous humor.
Shirl Roxby
Shirl, Ray’s mum, juggles freelance deadlines, sci-fi questions, and spaghetti night with humor, heart, and a pencil always in her messy bun. She’s proof that thoughtful parenting is full of little triumphs, and that resilience looks a lot like love in motion.
Atlas, the Blue Heeler
Atlas is more than a pet, he’s a guardian of feelings with a nose for comfort and a heart full of unconditional love. Though school rules keep him home, his presence in the stories reminds young readers that knowing someone’s there for you (even silently) can be the bravest kind of love.
